WHERE IS THE AMAZON BASIN LOCATED IN COLOMBIA?
The Amazon Basin is the part of South America drained by the Amazon River and its tributaries. The Amazon drainage basin covers an area of about 6,300,000 km2 (2,400,000 sq mi), or about 35.5 percent that of the South American continent. It is located in the countries of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
The Amazon Region is in southern Colombia over the Amazon Basin. It comprises the departments of Amazonas, Caquetá, Guainía, Putumayo, Guaviare and Vaupés.
There are no access roads to Leticia from Colombia or any border country due to the thickness of the rain forest around the small town. The only way to get here is by airplane from Bogotá or by boat from Peru, Brazil or Ecuador.
